When Arts Collide...

Hola, art buddies!

On the occasion when we’re feeling all culture-y, we might decide to read a book, see a movie, go to a concert or visit an art museum or gallery. And, we tend to consider different expressions of art as separate fields. In reality, these disparate endeavors often enable, inform and inspire each other.

Sometimes, in my practice, a song lyric will be the inspiration for a painting. Or, sometimes the  words come later to help convey the intent of the painting. The idea is for these forms of art to combine to help make a connection between the artist and the viewer.

Here are three recent paintings with a snippet of lyric that inspired and/or completed the work.

“You’re so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only ‘cause you’re lonely they have blamed you?
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile?”

from Mona Lisa sung by Nat King Cole

“If today was not an endless highway
If tonight was not a crooked trail
If tomorrow wasn’t such a long time
Then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all”

from Tomorrow is a Long Time by Bob Dylan

You see, she was gonna be an actress
And I was gonna learn to fly
She took off to find the footlights
I took off to find the sky”

from Taxi by Harry Chapin

All of these can be seen at Wineberley Wine Shop and Wine Bar in Wimberley during February and March.

OK, that’s all for now. Until next time… peace and art.
